It's been months now since the devastation brought by Yolanda (International name: Haiyan) hit the Philippines. Local and foreign aids have come to provide much needed help for the victims. After learning the extent of the tragedy, one cannot just sit back. So a few days after that fateful event, we at Maimai's Oven joined in the effort to help and thus launched "Lending a helping hand". In three weeks we were able to raise around $500.

Collectively we have raised around $1,600 on Sunday November 17, 2013, thanks to the support of the community. The "super typhoon Haiyan fundraising" was held inside St. Augustine's College in Augustine Heights immediately after the Sunday mass. The support was overwhelming as we were sold out. To those who missed out on this opportunity to help, "Maimai's Oven Lending a Helping Hand" is still ongoing.
Update (27/12/2013): This appeal is now closed and we are very happy to inform everyone that it has been very successful. So thank you very much! In an effort to lend a helping hand to our kababayans in the Philippines who fell victims to super typhoon Yolanda, all our sales for the next two weeks will be sent to the Philippines for their benefit. During this period, we will be selling our pandesal, spanish bread and pandecoco for $1 a piece to help raise money for our fellow Filipinos back home. Please help us help them and make a difference. We are accepting orders*! *If you do not wish to participate in this cause, please let us know so you can avail our products at regular prices (pandesal - $0.50, spanish bread - $0.75, pandecoco - $0.75)
Lately, Maimai's oven has been attracting new customers with two of my colleagues getting hooked with the spanish bread and pandecoco. They've been enjoying it for 3 straight weeks. And just recently, we received orders from co-workers of a workmate of mine.
A neighbor has also been enjoying our products for quite awhile now and has asked if we could provide the same for her friends. Looking forward this week. We're feeling ecstatic! Now accepting orders for tonight's (or tomorrow's) deliveries! Another busy day! It's top of 180 degrees Celsius today brought about by a 10 minute preheating with the dial set to top and bottom heat. Mostly sunny as the flames continue to rise below the $5 baking pans we got from BigW and a 5% chance of rain which, if you live in Ipswich, is not really surprising anymore. Our water tank has been empty for months now. It's our biggest day yet with orders almost reaching the 200 mark.
Close to two hundred pieces of bread are set to go over the flames today. Interestingly that the spanish bread took the lead on our customers' most wanted list in spite of the price change. More reasons to thank you! Y'all know what that means. It's baking time! After a fun and long weekend, we're back to doing what we love. Another set of deliveries tonight and looking forward to it!
